Infant Music Festival – May 2019

June 24, 2019

It was yet another hugely successful year for Accent’s Infant Music Festival with over 1,700 Key Stage 1 pupils from 41 schools across Warrington and Halton taking part. For the first time we held the event over three consecutive days and were delighted to be hosted by a Warrington High School for the very first time. Cardinal Newman Catholic High School opened their hall for us to use, and in Halton both Wade Deacon High School and The Heath School once again offered their support for this annual event.

Janet Whittingham, Deputy Music Commissioner and Vocal Strategy Lead for Accent, organised and ran the events. Presenting with her usual flair and humour, she show-cased the children’s love for singing through songs from ‘Eddie the Penguin Saves the World’ from Out of the Ark encouraging them to think creatively about this year’s theme: Caring for Our World.

Soloists from all three of the High Schools entertained the children with a song of their choice, showing the aspiring youngsters the level of professionalism and musicianship that can be achieved though hard work and dedication - and of course with the support of Music Teachers!

Janice Pounds, Music Commissioner said “The increasing level of engagement from schools shows both the appetite for singing that our young people have and all the trust that schools have in Janet to deliver high quality events of this kind year on year. It is wonderful to see so many pupils enjoying song together and developing a sense of community through the power of music. Thank you to all of the staff who have given their time to teach the songs to the pupils and of course well done to all our young singing eco-warriors!”
