Another fantastic Christmas Concert was held at Warrington Parish Church this year, with performances from Accent Community Ensemble, Halton Schools Wind Band, Sacred Heart, St. Benedict’s, St. Monica’s, Strings Out Loud (with members from St. Margaret’s and Beamont Community High) and last but not least Westbrook Old Hall. This year Deputy Music Education Commissioner Janet Whittingham compered the event, and donations were collected in aid of The Mayor of Warrington’s Charities and Warrington Parish Church.
Year on year, the groups never cease to amaze us with their performances, and this year was no exception. The audience were treated to gospel choirs, a diverse range of bands and a strings ensemble performance, with festive pieces such as ‘Angels from the Realms of Glory’, sung and played beautifully by Westbrook Old Hall’s ensemble, as well as some less seasonal items such as the catchy Soul Bossa Nova by Accent Community Ensemble and Halton Schools Wind band, which had the congregation and performers dancing in their seats- a really top notch performance! Strings players from Strings Out Loud and St Monica’s wowed the audience with their pieces and showed great professionalism in their first standing performance. Our Gospel Schools (St Benedict’s and Sacred Heart) performed both individually and, for the first time, jointly. Their soloists and choreography were excellent and if their enthusiasm is anything to go by, next summer’s Feast of Choirs concert will be an absolute triumph!
Accent’s Commissioning Officer, who attended the event, said: “Christmas is a time for gathering together to celebrate, and the groups that performed this evening gave us all a wonderful opportunity to do just this. We were really proud to hear how professional our young musicians are sounding. Well done to all the tutors, teachers, parents and, most importantly, performers for the time and hard work they have put in to make tonight’s concert a great success.”
