Accent Winners - The Lookouts to Shine in Local Performances

January 26, 2016

Winners of the Accent Music Education Hub Battle of the Bands Competition, The Lookouts from Birchwood High, are preparing themselves for their first paid gig of 2016. The band will play at The Rope and Anchor in Woolston on Saturday 6 February and are hoping that their loyal following will grow even more.

Since Accent took the band to perform in Hilden, Germany, they have extended their repertoire to include some different genres of music, and the members are now all singing so harmonies are a much more prominent feature of their performances. Drummer Nathan and Bassist James have now begun singing lead vocals on some songs, and the band has even written some original materials which they hope to perform on the evening.

Lead Vocalist and Guitarist Hayden said “Going to Germany was an amazing experience and one that has helped us to develop our set.  We’ve spent several weeks learning new songs, each one taking around a week to complete around school and homework duties. We’ve enjoyed composing new material which also helps as preparation towards our exams. We just need to now get the lyrics finalised for the gig!”

Band Mentor and Music teacher Kev McCabe said “Since winning the competition, the band have improved hugely in confidence, both as a group and individually, and they are really dedicated to making sure they put on a good show, which is really professional for such young players. They have just finished their final performance examinations and all got really good marks. Father Christmas delivered several musical instruments and accessories which are developing the band in terms of sound and abilities- Nathan even got a guitar, although I don’t think he can play that and drums at the same time!  The boys are keen to keep growing musically and the hub understands that exciting performance opportunities are key to keeping that momentum going”.

The band will also play at The Poacher in Gorse Covert and they are always looking out for more opportunities to perform in and around Warrington (as excellent Lookouts should be, of course).                  Accent told you first- The Lookouts are set for the big time!!!!
