Richard Jones student Jamie Reid wins The Elland Silver Band Championships

May 23, 2016

On the 8th of May 2016 Jamie Reid entered the Elland Silver Band Solo, Duet and Quartet Championships. The event was held at the Elland Music Centre between Huddersfield and Halifax, West Yorkshire.

The Elland Youth Brass Band have produced some of the best young brass players in the country as well as being representatives of the United Kingdom at the European Brass Band Championships two weeks ago.

On the day there was stiff competition from several members of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain but Jamie found success in both of the categories that he entered. Early on the Sunday morning he entered the 14 and under category performing “By The Fountain” a piece arranged by his Accent Music Education Hub tutor Richard Jones. Later that day he entered the under 16 category, this time performing the challenging Summer Isle by Phillip Sparke.

At the results ceremony it was announced that Jamie had won both sections, in addition to winning the adjudicators award for most outstanding performance of the day (including those participating in the adult categories).

In the summer Jamie will be performing with both the National Children’s Brass Band of Great Britain and the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain. Both of these are residential courses held in different geographic parts of the United Kingdom. This summer will be a busy time for the Reid family.  Congratulations Jamie the team at Accent are extremely proud of you.
