Birchwood High School Band "The Lookouts" perform at Hilden in Germany

December 1, 2015

Thanks to Accent Music Education Hub, Children’s Services, Warrington Borough Council and Birchwood High School band, The Lookouts, just performed their first ever international gig in Hilden Germany, Warrington’s Twin Town.

The band won this opportunity by competing against other rock bands from across Warrington and Halton to win the Battle of the Bands contest.  The competition was run by ‘Accent’ in September.

The gig was a guest performance as part of the Battle of the Bands in Hilden, Germany that took part at the Area 51 Youth Centre, although most of the performers taking part in the German competition were adults.

The Lookouts started their 20-minute, high octane set with a cover of Brian Storm by the Artic Monkeys, and the audience were immediately blown away by the technical ability, tightness and stage presence of the boys, all just 15 years old. Front man and rhythm guitarist Hayden gave a solid, crystal clear performance, wooing the crowd with his energy, whilst lead guitarist David stormed the stage with technical panache.

The rhythm section, made up of James on Bass and ‘the human metronome’ Nathan on Drums, provided a solid foundation and cohesion of such a professional level that the packed venue was literally pulsating. The German crowd demanded one encore, and had there been time, would have had a second!

Music Teacher and Band Mentor, Kev McCabe said "Birchwood High School, the parents and myself are all incredibly proud of The Lookouts- they boys are so fantastically talented and performed to such a high standard. We're sure that this is just the start of a long and prosperous international career in Music!"

Councillor Jean Carter, Lead Member for Children’s Services said ‘Accent’ are committed to providing opportunities for ensembles across the region to perform. Opportunities like this are essential for engaging pupils, helping develop their musical skills and maintaining their enthusiasm for playing, and when you get bands like The Lookouts representing the Hub internationally, you know you’re achieving that goal”. Well done The Lookouts on yet another sterling performance.
